Thanks for that - there's only an option to encrypt if the "erase the whole disk" option is selected, and no option to encrypt the Home directoty on...
I found Kubuntu worked on my very old laptop where I could not even install Ubuntu. Server installed, but not desktop. Kubuntu is more middle weight...
