And now it's Apache OpenOffice versus LibreOffice:
Is LibreOffice Exaggerating User Data?
The article quotes the very famous Rob Weir ... and he's an expert on Linux desktop numbers as well:
Source: quote from the link given above.Under a series of implausible assumptions, LibreOffice claims an additional 30 million users on Linux. The actual number is unknown, but likely far less. But since Linux desktops are only 3% of the desktop market, and that market is shrinking, this is not a realistic growth opportunity for LibreOffice.
And he goes further (quoted here):
All the same, I'll be staying with LibreOffice. In addition, Weir today publicly accused "certain external parties" of contacting OpenOffice developers, especially new ones, and trying "to discourage them from contributing to the Apache OpenOffice project." He also said, "certain external parties were contacting journalists who mentioned OpenOffice and telling them that it was no longer being developed and to link to a different product instead."
Imagine the shock and horror if it came out that since the forking of LibreOffice from OpenOffice, that LibreOffice code is being merged into OpenOffice.
At some point in time these two products must become so different as to be almost incompatible.
It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

Oh?
Most mobile purchases are in addition to computers, rarely replacing them.
The whole "post-PC era" is just a marketing slogan from a company trying to maintain a dominance in the only area where they have a majority share.
In the real world what we've seen is PC sales increasing every year.
True, modern PCs are good enough that they don't need to be replaced as often. But they're not going away any time soon. Tablets will likely wane before laptops.
PC sales are in decline, here is a couple of examples I found quickly

They're in decline, but it won't be long before we start to see an equilibrium. We're still in the phase of building a good base of tablets right now. After the initial excitement, people will see that tablets are a good supplement to PCs, but not a good replacement. Eventually, we'll start to see those numbers level off. We're not anywhere near the death of the PC.

Tablets have their uses, me personally, I can't use it for typing a report without buying an extra keyboard, at which point I have a touchscreen netbook broken into two parts.
Laptops/tablets just can't touch the computing power of a desktop. Desktops aren't going away.
