What I found that finally did the trick..was to deactivate the proprietary driver & goto ATI's website & download the version for your distro & install it. ATI's website also has the install instructions there.
It's painfull untill you get all the kinks out, but once you do it's well worth it! Good Luck.
yea i've installed the latest one.. its odd after the load screen i just get a black screen... i've tried the open source and all... anyone have some more ideas?
Is there any other open source drivers for the ati radeon x1600 agp 512mb card? If so please let me know so I can try it.
Finally some actual "error" codes for everyone. This is what I get for start up after I have installed the latest drivers from ATI.
That is my little error log. I am not sure what is going on... thanks guys for the help thus far.Code:(EE) module ABI major version (0) doesn't match the server's version (1) (EE) Failed to load module "dri" (module requirement mismatch, 0) (EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//fglrx_drv.so (EE) Failed to load module "fglrx" (loader failed, 7) (EE) No drivers available.
