No text in menues

All the text in the menus / bars disappeared in OpenOffice and in programs installed trough Wine. I tried changing the theme, and nothing.
Any ideas?

If you have compiz enabled, try without that and it might bring everything back as you want it. With some video cards strange things can happen.

Thanks, you are right. Without compiz, openoffice shows fine, but wine apps no (see the text in the menu in the attached image). Everything ran fine, until I changed something in the config a couple of weeks ago (I don't remember what) Any ideas?

This is cropping up all over the forum, often in conjunction with NVIDIA drivers.

Try setting appearance of the desk-top to boring old no-effects..

But if I don't use compiz, I still see the text garbled in wine (but not in openoffice), see my previous attach.
