LG S1 Express Dual - Wireless (Intel 3945) Problem

recently I made a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.10 and I'm no more able to use my integrated wireless card (Intel 3945).
I'm posting here since I tried almost everything I found on the web to try and solve this issue but with no luck.
Wireless was working fine with older distros but I'm not willing to go back.
Finally, I'm not so skilled with Linux: triyng Ubuntu to stop using Windows.
Enable Wireless in Network Manager is grayed out and so is for Wireless Networks.

    Iwconfig output is:
    lo no wireless extensions.
    eth0 no wireless extensions.
    wmaster0 no wireless extensions.
    wlan0 IEEE 802.11abg ESSID:""

              Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Thank you, help is really appreciated.
