Yeah, if you feel you need to give OS X a try, then MacBook is the thing.

I have given OS X a try, and will write my conclusions soon (I ditched it).

Here is a link to my blog where I asked for arguments:

    Re: Mac Book

I use MAC all day long every day at work and Ubuntu at home. Both have there advantages and disadvantages.

    Ubuntu
    ------
    Advantages:
Runs on any PC just about.
    Its free.
    The PCs are cheap.
    Wide choice of free software.
Always something new or improved around the corner.
    Great fun to get working.
    Freedom!
Ubuntu and Fedora alike make cool servers.

    Disadvantages:
Lets face it, PCs are crap, noisy and have nasty BIOS's in them.
Software packages are inconsistent and often not finished off to the same standard.

    MAC OSX
    -------
    Advantages:
    Everything just works no hassle.
    Very impressive performance.
    Excellent hardware and screen quality.
    Software is polished.

    Disadvantages:
    Dam expensive!
Be prepared to get into the buying software loop again, although it does come well equipped as standard, depends what you use it for.

In a nut shell I like both, Variety is the spice of life.

If you are buying a MAC, use MAC OSX, If you cant afford one, use Linux. I still think Ubuntu is cool as long as you dont try and make it look like a MAC, yuk.

I would love a 24inch iMac of my own though, feel free to send me one for xmas.

And honestly, if you buy a MacBook because it's prettier than a PC laptop, you'll probably en up using OS X as well. It is after all prettier than Ubuntu.

you can make Ubuntu as pretty as you want to though. In fact, you can make it look almost exactly like OS X if you really wanted.

    Re: Mac Book

sitting here as i am, typing on my much loved santa rosa macbook 3,1, i'm afraid i have to say that i wouldn't recommend OS X or macbooks to anyone...
i bought my macbook with the intention of giving OS X a try, because everyone raves about how user-friendly and intuitive it is.
i have to say that i couldn't disagree more
i found it at best confusing, and at worst infuriating with its 'apple knows best' attitude. and imo whoever devised finder should be found, and shot.
i'm now single booting hardy heron and although i have nearly everything working well, it basically just means that i paid too much for a very beautiful, but no more effective, piece of hardware.

so, although i'm very appreciative of everyone associated with ubuntu's mactel 'department' (movement, whatever you guys are <3), i am fairly certain i won't be buying another mac in my life
i'd say, stick to manufacturers who have at least a modicum of respect for the open source movement (and their users' intelligence? ).

I don't miss OSX one bit, found it to be just too limiting. My ubuntu is waaaaaay prettier than OSX ever was
Yeah, the apple knows best attitude needs to go.
The macbook shell is beautiful and comfortable, unfortunately not very sturdy (at least my model 3,1).Just got my topcase replaced and my bottomcase needs it.Apple is not admitting design flaw there though...
Really pisses me off considering how much it cost and the fact that the new macbooks are made of aluminum
As far as I'm concerned apple should replace my "crackbook" with a new aluminum one!!

I think next I'll just buy a cheap netbook
    okay apple replaced my topcase...
Now if they'll fix the bottom case cracks...
    Faith partially restored
