dxdiagn.dll

Some games (such as Final Fantasy XI) require the actual dxdiagn.dll file from a working install of Windows XP to run. However, I do not have Windows XP.

My computer is new and came with Windows Vista. So, my question is this, would the dxdiagn.dll file which is part of my Vista installation work just as well, or do I need to ask one of my friends who use Windows XP for a copy of their dxdiagn.dll file?

Thanks.

Re: dxdiagn.dll

I believe the dxdiagn.dll file on Vista is a different version than XP (DirectX 10 on Vista, DirectX 9 on XP), but, as long as the game is only checking for the presence of and not actually using dxdiagn.dll, then it should work fine. Even if the game does actually use the DLL, it may still work fine. It won't hurt anything to try, so you might as well just give it a shot.

BTW - How many places did you post this? While I was Googling some additional info on your question, I came across at least 3 or 4 other places this same question was posted today.
