Changing the color of an icon theme

Just wondering what the most effective method would be to change the colors of an entire icon theme.

The only way I am aware of is to do it by hand, unfortunately...

That is, to open each .png in gimp, and use hue/saturation to adjust the colour to your liking. Perhaps one could make a script to apply this across multiple files automatically, perhaps with ImageMagick?

GIMP does have a batch tool, but its not very user friendly and has to be used with python.

Thanks for the responses.. I was afraid that was going to be the case. Not even going to bother with all that then.
