Volume control knob "locking up" system

I recently upgraded to 8.10. Before the upgrade, I could control the volume level with the volume control on the side of my laptop. Since the upgrade, the volume works from menus (software) but the volume control on the side of my laptop will "flutter" like I am moving the control up and down rapidly. I have a Toshiba Satellite U305-S7448.
