    Which version of ubuntu do i download if i want to install it on a mac?

    Hi my mac took a **** and the hard drives wiped and i want to install linux on it

    i heard you need a ppc version
    any links to it will be greatly appriciated

    the mac is really old

    specs:
    Machine Model: eMac
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1 GHz
    L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 133 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.6.4f1

    You could pick a mirror close to you and then navigate to pub/ubuntu-releases/8.10/

    Having said that, it doesn't look like the ppc built is in the list, if there's still one. But look here.

    So Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop can run on either a PC or a Mac...?

    The same download can be installed on either computer?

    Hehe, sorry. See my edit in the last post. There's a PPC version here which should be the one for you.

    PowerPC's are not officially supported anymore
    however there is community support
