new and need help with sound/video

Hi

my name is Emily and i am completely new to ubuntu. My guy helped me to install it and my sound card isn't installed yet. I really want it done. It is an audigy 2 soundcard. Also he says my vlc player is suffering from flickering video playback. Any help would be really appreciated.

Try to mute spdif output from alsamixer. This way I got my sound work. It looks like you have the same prob. Or if you have speakers that use spdif, unmute spdif channel.
