Slow updates

When I download updates and programs from repositories, the speed is very slow, about 10-20kBps with interruptions on the way. I have 2.5MB connection. My friends with Ubuntu say that they have minimum 100kB speed. I think it is because I have home LAN, but I have no ideas about how to configure it to make the updates faster.

I have Edimax BR6204WG, one computer connected through wired and one wireless connection.

The server you are accessing for updates may be the problem. To pick a faster server, go to System-->Administration-->Sowtware Sources. Select the Download From dropdown and select other, then click the Select Best Server button. this will test all the servers and suggest the the fastest server, select it and you should now be able to download updates faster.
