    How to install ubuntu on new formatted hard drive.

    Need advice from the pros, how to install ubuntu on new formatted hard drive. Need a boot disk to start the cd or what? If this is the case please furnish me with info. New to ubuntu, ready to start learning the server side of the os.

    All you need to do is get into bios and set it to boot to the cd/dvd first.

    (for most, start to boot and hit the delete key .. but depends on your computer .. then go shopping in there and follow the directions.)

    The easy way is to put the CD in boot the machine and let the installer do its thing. Soon you'll have a working Linux system.

    The fun way is to workout your partition plan then grab a CD with Gparted and partition your drive. Maybe you way to try different distributions, if so leave a couple of empty 10GB or so partitions for installing something else later. Nuts n Boldt: Partitions 101 .

    May want to setup a testing partition and see if you can break it and fix it. (No fair if you log on as root its too easy to break)
