need faster distro than ubuntu 9.10 mini

I am trying to find the fastest possible no-gui installable linux distro. I have been using Ubuntu 9.10 mini, but it runs slow in portable qemu. Are there any faster non-gui distros or is there any way to speed up ubuntu 9.10 mini any faster?

I will give slitaz a try. I was looking at lfs but could not get it to install.

does not work. Is there something I can install to fix that?

TinyCore. Less than 10MB in RAM AND on disk. Blazing doesn't describe how fast it is. You can build your own install or use the packages. 2.6.x kernel too.
