I have just installed 8.10 and I'm having multimedia problems AGAIN. I have installed about four or five versions of Ubuntu on many different PCs and I always have multimedia problems every time. Some I finally can fix and some I can never fix. The latest problems for 8.10 are no sound using a SPDIF audio fiber connection and max resolution of 800X600 for my nvidia card. I don't believe Ubuntu or any type of Linux distribution will ever be accepted by mainstream PC users unless multimedia works out of the box. You have to have sound, be able to play a DVD and watch videos without problems. I love Ubuntu and like to use it a lot better than windows but I just changed my GRUB boot sequence to boot up Windows first.
