[SOLVED] Macbook Pro Santa Rosa - X won't start

I installed Kubuntu on my MBP today using the Macbook Pro guide on the wiki, rEFIt, bootcamp etc. The liveCD works fine on the laptop but the HDD install won't boot. I select Linux on HD from rEFIt and the screen goes black with a blinking white cursor. I believe this means that X is crashing. Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to switch consoles. I tried Fn+Option/Alt+F1 but no joy. Any ideas?

    Thanks in Advance

sync the partition tables with rEFIt.

Thanks a lot. I wasn't sure if that was the problem because I thought the blinking cursor was an indicator of X failing. Sorry for making a duplicate post.
