8.10 live CD will not run, upgrade from 8.04 freezes on boot
I was going to do a fresh install, so I tried running the live cd for Intrepid and as soon as I'd select any option (run ubuntu without any changes, install, or even test the cd's integrity) it just stalled indefinitely. I tried the alternate cd and it just repeatedly spat out some block IO error until I switched the machine off.
So then I tried a network upgrade from my 8.04 installation and after installing and rebooting the kernel log just froze at initializing cupsd. I rebooted again and selected recovery mode from Grub, figuring I could uninstall cupsys since my laptop isn't hooked up to any printer anyway, but I couldn't even get to a terminal - the system froze upon loading the kernel font.
I've since reinstalled 8.04, but is any way I can get 8.10 working?
