fglrx issues after 8.10 install

I recently upgraded to 8.10, first doing a dist-upgrade which caused massive issues with my laptop then did a full reinstall. Now I get screen overlay problems with 3d, video, etc while using the ubuntu fglrx drivers. I had this identical issue while using the drivers before from the AMD website. Here is a screenshot. I am using an ATI x1200.


Also the overlay glitches and blinks.

Btw, I have noticed that if I turn off the desktop effects this problem goes away. Tisk tisk, ati and their crumby linux drivers! I'm going with nvidia next time.
