    Starting to suspect Realtek driver...

I've got an Abit IP35 Pro XE and it has two LOM 8110SC network interfaces. I'm starting to suspect that my network performance could be hindered by the built in driver that Ubuntu provides automatically.

How might I determine that for sure? There is a driver available here:
    ftp://152.104.238.19/cn/nic/r8169-6.008.00.tar.bz2

which is dated as from this month (10/2008). I suppose I could just try it and see if my performance increases, but I'm not sure how I'd roll back to the old driver if I decided I liked it better. Plus, the performance lags I'm speaking of seem to occur at random (pages will take forever to load when browsing the Ubuntu Forums, then will be super speedy with the next click; other pages too; apt-get will slow to mere Bytes/sec, but then go back up to several hundred KB/s; etc), so I'm not sure how to know for sure.

    Thank you for your time,
    Jordan

Well, I installed the new ones...I guess I'll just reformat if I can't figure out how to restore the old ones
