Brightness keys Fn+Left and Fn+Right confused (Acer laptop)

System: Ubuntu 8.04.1. Laptop: Acer Travelmate 2424. Brightness is drived by bios. At welcome screen and while booting, brightness keys work fine. When you log in and ubuntu is completely booted, brightness keys reverse. When I press Fn+Left to reduce brightness, brightness reduces for an instance and then it increases, because bios is faster than linux scripts - first, bios begins to reduce brightness, second a script begins to increase brightness. (LCD screen slightly blinks while brightness is growing)

If I boot into Ubuntu 8.04 live CD (not 8.04.1), these keys (Fn+Left, Fn+Right) work properly (indicator does not appear, and that means that brightness is drived by only bios). Apparently, it is because of a latter update or because Live CD does not load all modules.

How to delete this driver or fix it?
