Looks like KDE4. Actually it looks worse than KDE4. Compiz already outdoes its special effects.

Nope but C-F can do it much better.... in union with Murrine

So basically this idea would be a hybrid of the Opacity, ADDHelper, and window thumbnail plugin (involving transparent windows, activation during mouseover of taskbar, and isolation of one certain window).

This seems super-easy to do, but a very good interface improvement. What say you, Devs?
A lot in Windows 7 are also still hidden.... like a new car model on a test run (downloading this junk and will test it)

I would love to see this come to Ubuntu.

Also take a look at this thread on the Ubuntu forum (although it got way of topic) http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=964742

What I would like to see would be the new right-click menu from Windows 7. Maybe not remove 100% of the window management functionality from the right-click menu, but I think the Windows 7 concept is a good base to make that menu more useful:

I personally don't like it. Besides, Murrine is going to be an abandoned project for a while as Cimi moves on and does school. So until somoene else adopts it, its dead.

Well it seems to be alot of abandoned and dead projects....

    Should we run Metacity ?

    RMS maybe loves that

And there are a lot of abandoned proprietary programs too. Difference is that open source programs can be revived, proprietary ones can't unless their bought.

But, in any case, metacity or Compiz will work.

    Re: Windows 7

oh.. this is quite nice, though I think it will extend beyond Compiz to get all of the features of the new taskbar (since you would probably need to write some kind of new panel applet and add dbus controls to relevant applications to allow for the quick controls shown above). However I really do like it, I've always found tabs a bit crude and this lets me have what tabs bring to the picture along with a lot of helpful additions to make task grouping even more useful. Both in finding the needle in a haystack and in interacting with my applications.

I know people will say we should just have a million tabs in firefox but that hardly gives us one simple interface to quickly sort through them all, find the correct one based on more than a name and maybe if we are lucky a small icon.

I would love this feature in my GNOME desktop.
On strike during the Oneiric cycle due to ungratefulness of Ubuntu.

I agree, but during Intrepid I felt it was a real struggle to polish all that technology. I think we must dedicate more time/effort to the user interface. Then we can beat Windows, who basically falls behind with "Windows 7" being done in a couple of years, while we have the technology right now!
