[ubuntu] I desperatly need to change MP3 ID3v2.4 tags to ID3v2.3, Help!

Hi all,

Well the title says it all! I have just bought a new Sony NWZ walkman one of those new ones that you can just drag and drop the files in. However, unknown to me but the player can only read ID3v2.3 tags. If the files ire in ID3v2.4 then the files don't display quite properly and the album art won't show.

So my question is whats the easiest way to mass convert about 100GB of music to the old ID3 tags?

I've tried Kid3 but I can't seem to get it to change the format, same goes for EasyTag.

Go read up on MusicBrainz Picard ... I *think* it might do it.

Hi James,

Kid3 should be able to accomplish this task. Conversion between ID3v2.3 and ID3v2.4 has been improved for the latest version 1.1, so I suggest to get Kid3 1.1, select the files to convert and then use the menu "Tools/Convert ID3v2.4 to ID3v2.3".

Thanks all, I recently tried Kid3 and it didn't convert anything for me but that may have been an older version.....

Musicbrainz works though! So thanks for all the help guys . If only EasyTag would support the conversion I'd be happy as larry!
