Arch is easier, but Slack will teach you more. Arch is more up-to-date, but Slack is stabler. Arch's community is larger and more helpful, but you can't beat the knowledge of many Slack users.

I would recommend Arch to start because it's very easy if your network connection works.

Slack seems to be what happens when Arch decides it doesn't feel like helping you. Great for really taking the reins on the system but lordy.
