    HI,

    I've tried to run the script as instructed on a fresh installed ubuntu 8.04 on an Acer Aspire 8920.

    script version rev 1.15,
    kernel 2.6.24-22-generic (hardy 8.04)

    actions

    sudo ./AlsaUprade-1.0.x-rev.1.15.sh -d
    sudo ./AlsaUgrade-1.0.x-rev-1.15.sh -snap
    sudo ./AlsaUgrade-1.0.x-rev-1.15.sh -i
    Reboot

    (had to run Nvidia restricted driver setup again)

    log files (attached)

    aplay-l does list my sound cards, but speaker test runs with no audio.
    All settings in control panel are correct.
    the installed programs HDSPMixer and such don't run either.


    any clue what is going wrong?

    In the mean I've installed the sound card the old way as pointed out here: http://jan.saell.org/blog/archives/30
    however with the latest source for hda-verb-03. from: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/tiwai/misc/ (seems to work with the latest kernel but I'm more interested in the new script provided here, if it works)

    Hi,

    I recently bought a new laptop (Packard Bell Easynote ML65 series), repartitionned the HD (for dual boot) and installed and updated Ubuntu 8.10.
    Everything seems OK except for sound:
    Headphones: OK
    Laptop-speakers: no sound.
    The Gnome Alsa Mixer showed 3 volume sliders: Master, PCM and Capture.

    Then I applied AlsaUpgrade-1.0.x-rev-1.15.sh => Installation successfully finished!
    The Gnome Alsa Mixer now shows: Master, PCM, Front, Front Mic, Front Mic boost, Mic, Mic boost and Capture.
    So I made progress, BUT:
    Headphones: OK
    Laptop-speakers: no sound.

    But in ALSA-Configuration1.0.18a.txt, I can't find ALC272 or options that I could use in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.

    Any idea's ?

    Great work on the script. I used it to update Kubuntu Intrepid to alsa 1.0.18a. Now the internal microphone on my new Lenovo Ideapad S10 works so I can Skype!

    I'd try the ALC663 or the latest snapshot.
    I guess you unplugged your earphones to get sound on your PC speakers.

    Thank you so much soundcheck for this script, it helped me out a bit when my audio suddenly died, probably because I had installed Miro.

    I have a puzzling problem with my headphones, though. I normally use digital output to my home theater speakers and everything works fine. But when I try to use the headphone output with mythtv I do not understand what is going on: I can listen to music, but not to TV or DVDs. Outside mythtv I hear sound normally through the headphones, for example from youtube movies.

    Iwould really appreciate if anyone could get me on the right track to a solution here!

    Hi,

    I've tried the script on my lenovo S10 with ubuntu Intrepid to alsa 1.0.18a but failed. First I've used the -di option and later -d and -c.
    During compilation I got the following errors:

    Acer X1200, nvidia 8200, MCP78 chipset. I am trying to get 5.1 audio from the 3 analog 2-ch jacks on the rear of the machine (I cannot use the HDMI audio). The jacks are green, orange, and black, and I have them working under Vista (as a proof of concept).

    Intrepid 8.10. nvidia driver 173 (via the Hardware drivers panel in Intrepid).. 173 handles full-screen flash MUCH better than 177 does (this seems to be a bug related to the 8200/8300 and am pursuing this at nvnews).

    I have installed alsa 1.0.18a by hand, and did have HDMI 5.1 audio working using 177.82 and the 180.x drivers, but again, they degrade full-screen flash performance to the point of being un-usable, and 180.xx is VERY unstable on the 8200. Ok, hopefully I have talked folks out of telling me to upgrade nvidia or use HDMI.

    so I can get front left audio pretty well, but can't get speaker-test to output to any other channels, which makes me think I'm not quite set up correctly.

    I've tried setting several model types in my alsa-base ie.
    Code:
    options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-6ch
    but no luck.

    I get 6-ch audio via VLC by going to audio prefs and selecting ALSA, but only for some content, when 5.1 is listed as an audio device.. other content has "A52 over spdif" and I can't get that out the jacks at anything better than stereo.

    Also my speaker-test command

    speaker-test -c6 -l1 -Dplug:surround51 -twav
    fails to produce audio on any channel except front left/right.

    I have un-muted and set volumes on all channels in alsamixer.

    No idea what to try next.

    Please forget my previous post,I got around that. But now I am in deep trouble, I ran the 1.0.18 script a couple days ago after my sound had completely died. It seemed to fix the problem and my system was fully operational.

    But only for a night or two. The same thing happened again, and without any seeming reason. I watched a recording, ended it, and went to a new recording... no sound.

    Last night I fiddled around and managed to get the sound up again when I ran the automatic update that appeared, for
    asoundconf set default-card

    ...including executing this command, of course. I also edited the alsa-base file. As I could not find any exact fit for my codec I took the closest (I assume that is not the problem here, but what do I know?):
    options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-dig


    After that all sound seemed (and still seems) to be fixed. I have sound through my s/pdif, and headphones from Mythtv as well as from Firefox (Youtube).

    BUT: the problem is that my Hauppauge DVB-T card HVR-1110 stopped working on digital channels (composite works). It seems to be related to the alsa issue I have been having, as dmesg gives me many lines with things like

    18.188140] saa7134_alsa: disagrees about version of symbol snd_pcm_stop
    [ 18.188142] saa7134_alsa: Unknown symbol snd_pcm_stop

    My total output from dmesg is attached along the uxchecker output.

    As far as I can tell the saa7134 on my TV card is no longer installed, aplay -l gives me only:
