    Let's copy Windows 7's UI!

    Why? Because we can!

This is what Windows 7's new taskbar looks like:

The image in the attachments is what I have so far. I'm not going to try and copy the window/button style as that's been done many times before.

    We we need is:

    - A way to get the tasklist to only show icons
    - A shiny panel background
    - A way to change the window previews to show minimized apps (if possible)

actually, having read about it here:

    http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post...windows-7.html

it sounds quite good to me. the only thing i really would like to see copied though is the feature whereby moving your mouse over an icon in the task-bar makes every window but that one transparent.

the only thing i use compiz transparency effects for is fading out windows so i can peek at the one behind, so this sounds like a very nice feature to me!

Let's not. Why? Because there are better things to do. Because I can't stand that sickening blue.

We already have something similar, it's called KDE 4.

We can't copy the UI! We'd have to start introducing the new innovative features that the UI brings to the table.

Like sticky windows... which are already in Compiz. Oh wait...

Cool Re: Let's copy Windows 7's UI!

Most of this can be accomplished through Compiz.

I guess someone who is resourceful enough could accomplish this.

I get similar effects in Compiz myself.

Personally I prefer to not look like any Windows apps or GUI.

    Gnome is my friend.
If at first you don't succeed - just buy the company and tell them to make the one you want.

(Almost) my thoughts exactly. The layout is very KDEish, I thought it looks like an aerofied KDE 3.5.
    Personally, I think it's awful.
