[SOLVED] KDE 3.5 on Intrepid?

I have tried the Ibex, but KDE 4.x just won't work in the way I need it to. I would like to be able to run Intrepid, but at this point KDE 4 is a deal breaker for me.

Panels. So far as I have found, it is impossible to properly create two panels on adjacent sides of the screen. This alone is keeping me from upgrading my computer until this is fixed. In trying to arrange two panels, I have managed to break window moving, resizing, and maximizing, along with my panels being a BFUM*. If I am extremely lucky, I will find this partially repaired on next boot of Intrepid, but I doubt it. Even so the underlying issue is still there.

There are other things, such as panel icons failing to resize, but none of those come close to the panel issue (and I haven't been able to work enough to find much else yet.)

Is there any fix available, or must I move to Hardy instead of Intrepid?

Thanks,

Tor

Re: KDE 3.5 on Intrepid?

Thanks. If I do go to Intrepid I'll work with that guide. Hopefully by Jaunty KDE 4 will be able to provide an environment which can be made to match what KDE 3 currently is.

You might also consider the upcoming mepis 8, one of the very few distros that still ship with 3.5.X. It's based on debian, so it'll be quite familiar if you've run kubuntu in the past.

Re: KDE 3.5 on Intrepid?

Thanks, I may try that. If the panel issue were resolved I think I could deal with the rest of the desktop, but running upwards of 60 windows, often with over 20 on one desktop, and having a second panel for icons to keep them small (keeping icons small in general, even) just doesn't work yet. I have never found anything other than kicker able to do what I want in my panels, which is actually what drove me to KDE in the first place.
