Do we still need to make changes (e.g. the line in /etc/sysctl.conf) when we upgrade to Ubuntu version 9.04?

My 9.04 works fine on that site (out of the box).

It wasn't a Ubuntu issue but rather a configuration issue with PC Financial which they have addressed. (So no - not needed in 9.04 or 8.x either)

We can only assume that, like in most IT environments, that the number of impacted users, who had a work around, didn't justify the risks of rushing in a change, especially near year end, and that it didn't take priority over all their many other issues. It's all cost/benefit/risk, and most financial institutions err on the side of caution.

Also, we don't know the structure of their maintenance cycles, assuming this just got flagged to go into a maintenance release rather than emergency fix, then it might only be scheduled into a quarterly release, and if not critical then it wouldn't go into 4th quarter which is year end and preceding RRSP season. Hard to say really.

In any case, I'm glad they got it fixed.

    Free chequing and withdrawals FTW!
