Please do not PM me about Registration issues without having been asked to. I will tell you to post here
I would like to ask if it's OK to contact somebody through a private message. Let's say I want to know a persons opinion about something and because I have read his posts before I believe She/He has the knowledge to answer my question. Therefore I want to contact him directly. But of course I don't know the person and have never contacted him before directly.
So is it OK? Or is it invasion of privacy?
Thanx for any clues!
I don't mind the occasional PMs from moderators I've had alerting me to stuff that I could do differently.
I've had one or two PMs asking for tech support of some kind - these I'd rather respond to via a regular thread so that someone more knowledgable in that area can jump in and help solve the particular difficulty being addressed.
Forum DOs and DON'Ts
Never assume that information you find using a search engine is up-to-date.
Just for your info, I clicked the "pretty picture"as you put it and it does not do anything. I also agree there is no obvious method of posting a new question here and Im still searching. It may be obvious to you but to new people its NOT!
I agree, it's very frustrating for new people to figure out how to post a question since there's no 'Post' link or button.
Sometimes I will go a few weeks without visiting the Ubuntu forums and forget how it's done. I've often wondered 'why make it so hard to find?'.
This is such a common complaint, I don't know why they refuse to fix it. I've been coming here for a couple years but since it's so obscure, I forget how sometimes and get frustrated myself trying to find it. Are the creators so egotistical they can't admit a mistake and change it?
All the forums I've ever been to work the same way, there is always a New thread button at the top of the first page of each sub-forum.
If you bookmark ubuntuforums.org, you always come in on the Main page, then select which sub-forum you want to create a thread in.
We have well over a million members, and we see very few request on how to start a thread.
