Two DVI-D monitors into one DVI-I Dual Link interface

I have an evga GeForce 6800GS card with one DVI and one VGA connection.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130265

I want to connect two DVI-D monitors to it, both on DVI. Am I able to do this with a DVI Y-Cable? I'm reading things like this:

"..but even so all that would do is mirror the same image on both monitors."

..but these posts are a couple years old too. So basically, can I do this? With a cable like, say, this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Unlimit...pr_product_top

..and be able to span the desktop across the two monitors, or would I need to SLI a second card?

Also, if I had one connected DVI and one VGA, how serious of a difference would I notice?

    Thanks for any insight.

yes you would just mirror both images but i don't think that there is a big difference between dvi and vga not sure about the screen stretch

    Thanks for the quick reply.

So to have a dual monitor (spanned) setup one will have to be VGA? Or SLI a second video card?

    Just trying to be clear.
