Is it hacked, a virus, or just totally screwed up?

I have a friend who swears that the cause is that I either got hacked or got a virus. Both of those options seem very unlikely to me, but I'd like to get a second opinion, and more importantly, for any of these, what can I do?

If you want help bumping the first post in 4 hours then making a second thread is not to your advantage, although there is a post on the 1st thread. Install opera or another browser and relax for a little help.

Unlikely to both. There really aren't any viruses for GNU/Linux operating systems, but rootkits can be installed if you are not careful. Hackers, today, prefer to make your computer part of a botnet or use it for downloading that is illegal. That last is true especially for wireless systems. Crooks can download stuff like child pornography over open wireless systems, which can make it untraceable. Read about this police raid.
