Question Setting ftp server with gproftpd

    Hello friends,

Can anyone tell me how to setup an personal/commercial ftp server with gproftpd gui app provided with ubuntu. Is static IP compulsory for setting of a personal/commercial ftp server?

And please also help me in sharing folders with the following structure:

UBUNTU (MAIN SYSTEM) ----> SAMBA SHARES ----> XP MACHINE (CLIENT)

I want to share a folder in ubuntu machine with xp machine. My xp machine requires a password when i try to open the folder. Root/administrator access is allowed but guest access is not allowed to login.

Please help me providing a quick solution to access guest account with 'Read Only' privileges.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards.

For any service, a static ip address is better, as with dhcp the ip address changes occasionaly, then you have to find the new ip address.

To stop from needing a password with your windows shares, make sure, Allow network users to change my file is checked in the sharing dialogue.
