I would like to use Ubuntu and Adobe SC3.

Dont think so, virtual box is a virtualization software for OS, in case u want tu use virtualbox u need to install window xp or vista and then photoshop CS3, and if you dont want to install a microsoft OS, u need to install cs3 in Wine...

You have to intstall WinXP or Vista to have Adobe InDesign CS3 work in Ubuntu with something like VMware.

I place my files, data on another drive, a raid5 array, and then have three backups to the array, one online, another near-line, and finally, one off-line.

The virtualization program is as reliable as the OS and the hardware upon which it runs.

It is definitely safe. Everything's gonna work fine. But as the saying goes, practice safety always

Keep some important files in a usb or you might try something like that:

Somehow, in total, virtualization is working real good and is definitely safe!
