IM as a daemon

Hi,

I'm looking for an IM working as a daemon on my gnome-less server to be controlled by all my clients through a gui !
Does it exist ?

I thoght finch was a good idea, but it's not a daemon...and cannot use Pidgin as a gui.

there is also naim
and irssi for irc.

You might want to look at Jabber. ejabberd (in the repos) is a Jabber daemon with a web interface, and of course it can be accessed by any Jabber-compliant IM, such as Pidgin.
