Unhappy [SOLVED] Built In Wireless Card Not Recognized After Upgrade to Hardy Heron - Help!

The wireless internet still works if I plug in a D-Link (which is how I'm posting this), but the built in adaptor doesn't (the light is still on). I'm definitely a newcomer to most of this technical stuff, but a friend recommended some commands to type in, so... here are the results!

I'm quite sure some of that is overkill (and probably not enough information on some others things), but if you've gotten this far, please do help. Much thanks!

the following lines from your post indicate your wireless adapter:

    description: Ethernet controller
product: AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter
    vendor: Atheros Communications Inc.
    physical id: 0
    bus info: pci@0000:02:00.0
    version: 01
    width: 64 bits
    clock: 33MHz
    capabilities: bus_master cap_list

A better look would be to type lspci and copy/paste the output back here. It looks like it may be an Atheros(sp?) chipset, but the output of lspci will help us more. From there, you may even see the maker/chipset on your own and can search the forum for existing posts. If not, just post back and we'll go from there.

    Dave

EDIT: just do a search for Atheros AR242x in the search window and you'll pull up a ton of posts.

All right, thank you - I'll definitely try some of that out.

The D-Link or router or... well, who knows what died too, but I think that's a non-Ubuntu related issue (been happening it on my other computer with a wireless connection too).

So for now, I'll go fix that, and then get back to looking through those posts. Ai ya! xD

    Again, thanks.

Re: Built In Wireless Card Not Recognized After Upgrade to Hardy Heron - Help!

I actually just did a fresh install of Gutsy Gibbon, which is working fine, so I think I'll stick to that while I figure out what's up with the router.

    But thanks!
