Linux finally a threat to Microsoft

You know that Microsoft see's you as a threat to their business when they begin to copy you. Publically, they'll deny that you even exist. Ask a die hard Mac user.

So, it should come as no surprise that Microsoft has released an installer much like the Ubuntu installer (Source: http://www.microsoft.com/web/channel...Installer.aspx) that will distribute an open-source product called Drupal (source: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13505_3-10...orsPicksArea.0). Beyond that it's finally offering support for Linux users with Silverlight 2.0.

Could it be that they're finally beginning to lose customers to Linux? (See Amazon top 20 laptops)

I believe that it was Steven Ballmore who said that "Linux owes Microsoft". Hmm, well, You're welcome Steven.

I had a look at that and it seems to be mostly XP and Macbooks in the top 10. Not much evidence of the "Pacman-like" nature of Linux.

I'd be more interested in seeing the shipping figures for Dell's Ubuntu machines.

It was only a matter of time before they created something similar to the famous linux repository model.

It is a server application however.

I don't think the desktop using crowd will be interested or ready for the change (some will, most won't).

Bombastic conclusions out of thin air. The Russian thing is, in fact, a threat.
