Sprint Palm Centro Tether - USB Modem

I am new to Ubuntu & Linux.

I just got a new Dell Mini w/ Ubuntu 8.04 and would like to tether my Sprint Palm Centro as a USB modem. I have succeeded in tethering to my Vista laptop, using PDANet. My Mini is right out of the box, and I cannot seem to find any instructions on any forum that actually work for me. I have tried using, with no success, the USB Modem program.

Can someone please give me detailed instructions, from the very beginning-- as if you're speaking to somebody who knows nothing about Linux (because I know very little at the moment)-- for tethering a Centro, using Sprint, via the USB hotsync cable?
