I've never been a great fan of the default wallpapers since Dawn of Ubuntu (which I still occasionally use).
Yeah, the 'Dawn of Ubuntu' was an awesome wallpaper. I loved how it had an African tree. I should dig out my old ubuntu cd's and copy that one to my ibex drive.

as for the new one... (the rock one) it's pretty good, but i think the colors should be changed a little bit, and make it look almost like a piece of granite or something...

No need for that, Captain Keen!

That has Dawn of Ubuntu on a day / night cycle

I for one am fine with the ibex background. I would have liked something more lively (like the heron was), but this is certainly distinct and most importantly unique.

That's a joke right? there is a video of Nelson Mandela on the live cd? (I'm on my windows box at the moment so can't check).

No, in the same way I've never wondered why Vista is called vista. "does it work?" is pretty much my own concern.

I agree the 8.10 release candidate background is a good choice. It's first impression is strong, striking, and memorable. It might be too strong for many people to keep permanently but most people set their own background anyway so the first impression is what really matters.

Seen the RC screenshots... I generally don't know what to say... The background looks great, but it does not fit with the old tango icons. The semi-transparent background, is that a fashion?

After an update the semi-transparent panels are opaque again.

The png background image that gave such a beautiful gradient transparent effect is missing. Does anyone still have a copy of it so I can put it back?

It was removed because it was badly designed and it used an implementation way too buggy for a default setting to use.

I've uploaded the panel from the previous human-theme package here, but frankly you can make a better one with a few minutes in inkscape:

I know there were good reasons for removing it but I liked it, glad to have it back. Thank you.
