    Preparing the system

What steps to I need to take to optimise my XP, Vista PCs (20 of them) which currently do not network (although there are some default/random workgroups assigned) so that when I boot up Ubuntu and it finds my network and things go smoothly (i.e. without hacking around my PCs afterwards)? I have read some of the tutorials but they do not talk about a startup arrangement of the network.
    Thanks for your time.

    Re: Preparing the system

The reason I'm asking this Q is that I have no idea (yet) when I install Ubuntu server what packages I need in place to get file and prints sharing in place.

Some starters would be appreciated. Or am I in the wrong forum?
    Thanks for your time.
