    Unhappy Where'd my newly installed programs go?

    I just installed several digital camera related programs using Synaptic. No errors, everything looked fine. Now, however, there are no new programs listed in the Applications menu, and I have no idea where to find what I installed.

    I installed 6 or 8 programs and, possibly stupidly, did not keep track of the names of what I was installing. So are they just "somewhere", hiding under a name I don't remember?

    And why didn't any of them end up in the Applications menu. Seems like when I've installed new stuff before, it got automatically added to the menu.

    Can anyone tell me how to find / use the stuff I just installed, or am I just sunk?

    right click -> edit menus

    (edit: right click where the word "applications" is on the panel)

    see if they show up there, but have the square box next to them unchecked.

    if they are there, but the box is unchecked.... checking the square box will make them visible in the menu. its happened to me before, no idea why.

    if you can remember what the 8 programs are called, you can add them to the menu there, too.

    also... are you sure these 8 programs even had a graphical front end? just randomly picking things in synaptic and installing?

    a lot of the stuff in synaptic is just text-only programs.

    i used to just use synaptic to download random stuff myself, until i learned that synaptic sucks when used as a google-replacement
