Desktop installation without CD ROM (Fiesty Fawn)

    Hi,

I have an old Windows desktop, which has a CD ROM which does not work.
I have a live CD of Fiesty Fawn (7.04) burnt using my laptop.
I tried using the 'Manual Approach' specified https://help.ubuntu.com/community/In...n/FromUSBStick.
I followed the 1,2,3 and 5 bullet points specified there.
Teh desktop did boot using the USB, but once it boot up it was very very slow. I could see the ubuntu desktop but nothing happened for about 20 mins after I clicked on install.
I tried this twice and both times I had to reboot the system into windows.
I have another windows laptop with a working CDROM drive at my disposal.
I would prefer if I can use the live CD that I have rather than download a newer version since my download capacity is limited in both speed and size.
Any suggestions about how can I go about installing ubuntu on my desktop?

    Thanks
    Shikhar

Usb-creator will install Ubuntu from an iso on the desktop direct to flash drive creating a Live USB that can then be used to install ubuntu just like the Live CD.
Not sure if it works on anything but 8.10.
Unetbootin and live-usb should be able to do the same with 8.04.1.
All of the tools will also create a Live USB from a Live CD.

So I had an iso file which I used to create a Live CD.. I do not have the original iso file now. How can I recreate the iso file to use UNetbootin?

    Thanks

If it is taking a long time to install Fiesty. You may not have enough ram, or defective ram. Run memtest from your USB device for a couple of hours to check for errors. How much ram do you have?
