In mythtv-setup, can you provide a screenshot of step 2 (capture cards)? I'd like to know how many cards are listed there and what they say.
I have two capture cards: an older HVR-1600, on which the mechanical coax connector is broken; hence it is only an analog tuner now - that is on /dev/video0. Then my HVR-2250, on video1/adapter1 and video2/adapter2 (see first image)

Both digital tuners on the HVR-2250 are set up exactly the same way: DVB-DTV capture card, Samsung S5H1411 QAM is the Frontend ID, Max Recordings 2. I have had this card for a couple of years, and have found that by setting Max Recordings 2, I can in fact record two digital streams as long as both streams are broadcast on the same freqid i.e., I can record 88-172 and 88-173 at the same time, but I cannot record 88-172 and 99-501 at the same time (under those conditions, Myth used to schedule the second tuner to cover the second recording). Used to work great because TW used to group the different PBS stations on the same freqid.

I've been running this hardware fine for years now (one of the reasons I still have the HVR-1600 around is I bought the 2250 before the analog drivers were finalized). 12.04/0.25 seems to be giving me trouble.

And just to reiterate - I only seem to be having trouble recently with tuner 2.1 (encoder 19). I agree, I should be able to scan once and have all the tuners rely on that map. But when I started to get "B" filesize recordings using tuner 2.1, I started to investigate...

yes that's how it works, with any one tuner you can only record off the same mux

Are all your digital tuners using the same video source? They should be. You scan a video source when you tie it to a card using input connections.

Can you show a screenie of your input connections in mythtv-setup?

Wife is watching the opening ceremonies right now, so no screen shot.

But to answer your question, yes, both tuner 1 and tuner 2 are using the same video source...

But to reiterate. Today, right now (were my wife not using the box), I could do a scan using tuner 1, and it would find all of my digital channels (I did this two days ago when TW remapped their channels). I can do a scan using tuner 2.2, and it will find all digital channels (I did that this morning). I can do a scan using tuner 2.1, and it will find nothing (did that last night). Not a bloody thing. No signal - nothing.

Correlate this behavior with the error messages that popped up in /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log when I was attempting to record a channel today on tuner 2.1:
    Code:
    Jul 28 07:40:13 Mythbox mythbackend[7938]: E SignalMonitor dvbchannel.cpp:1022 (GetSignalStrength) DVBChan(19:/dev/dvb/adapter2/frontend0): Getting Frontend signal strength failed.#012#011#011#011eno: Invalid argument (22)
    Jul 28 07:41:14 mythbackend[7938]: last message repeated 880 times
    Jul 28 07:42:00 mythbackend[7938]: last message repeated 686 times
It would appear to me that for some reason, tuner 2.1 (encoder 19 isn't getting a signal. Now it isn't hardware, since on the 2250, there is only one wire plugged in the back, and the analog, both legs of tuner 1, and tuner 2.2 are getting signal. So the card is getting adequate signal. There's something specific to tuner 2.1 - either something on the card fried, or there's a bug somewhere in the 0.25-repos... Based on the "invalid argument" listed in the logs, I'm leaning to a software bug.

Try deleting all your capture cards in mythtv setup (not "all on this machine", but ALL of them). Then add them again, in the order you want them prioritised. You can do more than 2 virtual tuners per physical card if you want, it depends on your mux setup and overall backend IO how much utility this has for you. I have 5 virtual recorders per physical tuner.

Don't worry you won't lose any tuning or channel info, simply connect them to the correct video sources again and you should be done.

The fact that you are up to tuners 19 and 20 in your database suggest to me that you have added and deleted quite few of them. Things CAN get corrupted and confused by this. The above may well fix it, and takes a very short space of time (although I can understand that interrupting the opening ceremony is no go!) I did it the other day and it took more than 5 minutes.

    Hi all,

Just a note on this card. It caused me massive pain for a while.. I live in Sydney, Australia. We have 3 "main" stations 7, 9 and 10. We kept missing a lot of recordings and they were all on one channel (or varying frequencies of it). I had to create two separate input groups and delete channel 9 from it. I'm lucky I have other cards in my system.

I've had the card up and running in this rig for several years. Don't dispute it has issues, but I had most all of them troubleshot for my specific needs.

Something has changed in the last few weeks - either a software/driver bug (I'm on 0.25-repos, and am pretty religious about upgrading the system software as well, Ubuntu just pushed out 3.2.0-27-generic; so if there's a bug in the software, I would have caught it), or my hardware fried. Simply hoping it is the former...

I am now sporadically recording with the second digital tuner on this card - most of the time it fails, sometimes I get a complete recording.

The latest error - I got about 10 seconds of a 30 minute show this morning. Anyone have a clue on this error?

    Code:
    Aug 1 09:30:01 Mythbox mythbackend[31892]: I TVRecEvent tv_rec.cpp:816 (FinishedRecording) TVRec(8): FinishedRecording(2501_2012-08-01T09:00:00) damaged recq:<RecordingQuality overall_score="0" key="2501_2012-08-01T09:00:00" countinuity_error_count="2" packet_count="44450">#012 <Gap start="2012-08-01T09:00:10" end="2012-08-01T09:30:00" duration="1790" />#012</RecordingQuality>
The filesize of the result was only 7.5 MB...
