Weird glitch with the touchpad enable/disable

HELP! When I toggle the touch pad button, it turn of the touch pad, then it opens Ubuntu help center, and when I enable it again it also does the same! I use Ubuntu 8.04 LTS on a HP Pavilion dv9000, with (duh) a synaptic touch pad.

    EDIT: Fixed a spelling error.

I can't help with it other than to confirm I get the same thing, on an hp pavilion (don't want to go get the model number)

On the side of the touchpad there is an area used to emulate a scroll button and it ceases to function after re-enabling the touchpad.

It seems that I can still use the scrollbar thing even when I disable and re-enable, but sometimes it won't work, it does that out of random.
