What does the nohz=off command do?

I'm trying to install Ubuntu on my laptop, but it freezes at the loading screen, and I've been told this command helps it not to freeze, and it really does, but I'd like to know what it does.

It's basically a way to keep your system a little cooler and use a little bit less energy while running. For desktop users, it currently looks like there will be little need to have it on, but for servers, it might be worth it in the long run.

you need to check your system monitor though, some processors get stuck at a 100% with that setting.
