Students sick of their University/college/school network - discussion thread!!

Introduction: This thread is for students (or anyone else) using linux (or anything else) for discussing matters regarding universities networks. Especially, this is for discussing the topic "HOW TO BYPASS UNIVERSITY NETWORK RESTRICTION"

Alright, I'm studying in Panjab University, Chandigarh, India.
Till today I used JAP (JONDO Anonym Proxy) software to bypass restrictions made by our university on accessing the net (TOR is blocked). Now I understand that the restrictions on web content that includes pornography, illicit content, torrent is completely justified (Yeah, I hate porn although am a teenager). But I used the software to bypass things my university had foolishly/inadvertently banned/restricted such IRC channels, youtube (you tube can be used for useful purposes)etc.

But today to my horror, when I checked the log file of JAP (when it could not connect), I found that my the port 4001 (used by JAP) was blocked.

So now I'm here making threads for unlucky students (like) harrassed by their universities.

I would like to hear comments from student (or anyone else of course) on this matter. And do indicate the methods you (may) use to by these restrictions (as they may be of help to people like me).

    Hare Krishna
    And pray for me too...
