Re: What's your personal barrier for full time Linux adoption?

well I can't vote in the poll as there is no software I miss under windows that I don't have under Linux. The only reason I have a windows partition is so I can run MSOffice (a requirement for Uni). If I could submit all my assignments as odf or rtf I'd be ok, but specifically MSOffice 2003 file format...blah

The first option: I miss iTunes and Photoshop CS3 on Linux. Those are the only applications that I still use Windows for.

(Don't start a discussion about iTunes alternatives or the GIMP, ofcourse I already know those exist).

    Three reasons:
    - Games, although I don't play that much anymore..
    - Hardware not working: Soundblaster X-Fi Notebook
    - It is nice to have two OSes, in case if one just ceases to work.

I've reduced Windows to a Virtual Machine, but I just need Adobe stuff. I can't help it, GIMP and Inkscape aren't as intuitive, and Flash has no open source equal.

You know that OpenOffice and AbiWord both save to .doc, right?

It iTunes that makes me have an old PC with Windows on it. I think a Linux version of things like iTunes or perfect working in WINE would be a real enabler for people to convert.

Catch 22. No point in Apple doing iTunes for Linux and the usage would be small but the Linux usage won't improve until Apple do the port!!!

Re: What's your personal barrier for full time Linux adoption?

I miss specific professional/ shareware app (iTunes, Photoshop, Autocad, etc)

I miss M$ Office, OO.o is ok but it's just not the same, plus a lot of files I get are .docx, .xlsx etc... Plus it doesn't hurt to stay competent with it for future employment.

Some of my hardware is not supported (A webcam, printer, video-card, etc)

My Printer and webcam aren't supported. The webcam I can live without but the printer is pretty much necessary
