    Question Is there a command to start and stop fan

    Yeah ... the topic name says it all....
    Is there a command line to start and stop fan of laptop using ....

    ubuntu 8.04 64bit.
    acer aspire 5920g laptop
    1.83GHz core2duo 64bit
    2GB ram

    Please ask if any extra information is needed.

    I don't think it is possible with out the root user's permissions But i would be glad if there is.
    .... Even though I am the root of my laptop, it is safer or easier or good taste or ......

    You know, he may want a such command because Ubuntu shuts their fan off, and they want to simply turn it back on.
    Use common since here people.

    Thank you so much for your replies.
    There is an applet called 'hardware sensors monitor' which I can add to the gnome panel.
    It can execute a command if the temperature goes above a certain value or falls below some other value.
    My system starts fan after temp crosses 60 degrees Celsius and stops them after falling below 50C.
    I like to have them 50C and 40C respectively.
    I hope to achieve this in the way I am thinking to.

    EDIT:
    with some amount of googling I found out that there is a simple command fan -f to stop fan and fan -n to start it for toshiba laptops.
    I want to know a similar thing for acer 5920g.
