possible to block updates? (openoffice)

hey all - i have a simple question (i think)

recently, on Gutsy, I manually updated OpenOffice via the packages from their site. now, whenever i check for updates, i get a list of openoffice updates that are older versions. they never install (thankfully)... but i'd like them not to show up at all, if possible. so.. is there a way to block the openoffice updates?

In synaptic find package which updates you don´t want>click on it>package tab>lock version.
