Interesting stuff. Thanks for the link. I've actually tried some of those, with varying degrees of success.

    Thanks for the link.

I occasionally cast a look over at the Haiku site, which hit alpha a not too long ago.

I would enjoy being able to run AmigaOS on x86 hardware with OpenGL compatibility.

I hope they make it through the lawyers.

I'm surprised Plan 9 from Bell Labs wasn't mentioned. It's basically the next generation Unix - it aggressively enforces the 'everything is a file' concept and does away with the superuser.

No root user? The horror! What is this, Windows? (Unless I'm mistaken in my interpretation of what you said.)

If at first you don't succeed - just buy the company and tell them to make the one you want.

MenuetOS is a fine system. As was stated already, KolibriOS is a fork of Menuet. There are differences. HD installs of either system are great fun, and great platforms for learning FASM assembly. Full sources for the 32-bit version of Menuet are available as are the sources for Kolibir, I believe, but someoone correct me if I am wrong. I don't have a 64-bit setup, so I can't attest to the 64-bit version of Menuet, but the 32-bit is awesome. There are instructions for HD install from Windows and Linux included in the Menuet download if you don't feel like running from a diskette.

    Assembly language makes everything smaller.
But Assembly is really hard to code in (compared to today's languages) and differs from arch to arch.

It was probably picked for no other reason than to display some of the current strengths of the ever developing graphics layer.

It is very easy to change the Workbench background image.
