    Question Which kind of laptop?

    Hi,

I am looking for a laptop (or netbook) for typing notes, watching videos, and going on emesene. Looking for battery life of around 3 hours, and at least 20GB SSD/HDD. My budget is £250 ($460).

I am thinking of something like the ASUS EEE 900, Acer Aspire One or Acer Aspire 5315.

    Thanks.

Tesco have the Acer Aspire One in stock for £198 just now, but the battery life might not be long enough.

The Eee901 has much longer life, but is currently much more expensive at £280.

Might be worth waiting a wee while to see how much the Ubuntu Toshiba NB100 will go on sale for. (due out soon)

You might want to consider getting a second hand laptop if you don't plan on doing heavy duty stuff. You can always buy a cheap old-timer and throw in a few more bucks to make it usable again. I think the only bottleneck will be the RAM and the hard disk.

The EePC is nice, but you will probably hate the tiny screen after a while. Me, I'm typing this from a MacBook.

personally- i'd collect more money and buy an EeePC1000 - it includes 40gb of storage, nice, 10inch screen, long battery life...
eventually, i'd buy eeepc901 - with atom processor /a bit less powerful than celeron, but less power-hungry/ and 20gb of storage

    Re: Which kind of laptop?

I have had a look and have decided to go for either the eee 900 or aspire one. Screen size is fine, as I have used them. I'm not sure about keyboards, and the acer aspire one trackpad seems a bit weird...

Tesco also seem to have the Dell Inspiron 910 for £250...

    Hi there.

Can´t help you with your last question, but just out of curiosity, did you decide on a netbook/laptop already? If yes, which one? Don´t be shy!

I am using my brand new eeepc 901, (linux edition of course) and its fab, despite having Xandros on it. Keyboard takes some getting used to, but its perfectly usable. And its teeny-tiny.

I am sort of set on the EEE 901, but I may just build a new computer instead.
