I'm wondering if I'm the only one who can spend hours at a time customizing.
I'm a minimalist. I change the default desktop theme to something simple.
I just keep the default theme.
I like a look-alike theme.
I customize my desktop to be "nature" oriented.
I customize my desktop to be "computer/matrix" oriented.
I almost never change my theme.
I change my theme seldomly.
I change it pretty often
I spend a lot if my time customizing
I'm a customize-aholic!
I'm wondering if I'm the only one who can spend hours at a time customizing.
In a world without walls and fences, who needs windows and gates?
In a universe without fruit and income, who needs apple and jobs?
I spend about an hour customizing.
None. I install xmonad and dmenu and use the defaults.
You are not alone.
I love the granular degree of customization that Linux offers.
I mod the default "Human" theme a little bit so it's not quite so muted (brighten it up just a smidge) then I tweak or change the cursor, fonts (both size and face), window/dialog boxes, wallpaper, make numerous panel adjustments (number, location, what's on them). That's just off the top of my head.
Then of course there's Compiz...

Well I change the theme and icons... not much, I like to keep things simple
About once or twice a month I change the entire look of my computer, up to and including:
1) New wallpaper
2) New icon / Metacity theme
3) Turn avant window navigator on or off
4) Move panels around / change transparency
5) Swap around Compiz effects
It keeps things interesting and makes me feel like I have a new computer

I create themes and stuff, so it's a lot of time spent on customizing for me. I'm always looking for new ways to create a minimalistic + beautiful + usable desktop.
Way too much. I think I'm going to stop now.Desktop Customization: How much do you customize?
Things I've customized:
custom kernel with zen2 patch, AMD64 settings, nice settings, cflags mflags.
recompile every app (500 apps) to use custom cflags for Turion 64 x2 TL-60
I make my All my own gtk themes, whether clearlooks, murrina, or xfce4.
I re-create All my icons themes using the UbuntuStudio icons because I like them but don't like the blue color.
I usually make my own gdm themes, or slim theme.
I always use my own gtkrc-2.0 for the xfce4 panel or an image for gnome.
I use my own conky script that I wrote.
I like to use unique icons for apps like firefox.
I love to find different wallpapers, and usually remake it to be my own.
I make all my own emerald themes, and xfwm4 window themes.
I like custom keybinding shortcuts for certain apps.
I use the nvidia-beta now becasue it works better.
I use my own UbuntuStudio icons for thunderbird.
Custom fonts....
And I like to have my compiz-fusion a special way that is super fast.....

Picking a new wallpaper alone can take me a few hours.
